For anyone who hasn't read George Orwell's book, there's not a whole lot of animal care involved; the story is actually a fairly grim allegory of events surrounding the Russian Revolution and Stalinist regime.

It wasn't long before Shetty's comments had grabbed the attention of Twitter, and a hashtag -- #ShilpaShettyReviews -- began trending.

On Wednesday, Shetty took to Twitter to respond to the hashtag, saying that she'd never actually read the books mentioned and calling it a "misunderstanding".

Despite the jokes, some fans were quick to stick up for her.
