Americans are now fighting over where Melania and Barron Trump will live

UPDATE(5:10 p.m. ET): CNN reports that Trump told reporters Sunday afternoon that Melania and Barron will not initially live in the White House but will make the move after Barron finishes his current school year later in 2017. The original story continues below.

Americans are now arguing about where incoming First Lady Melania Trump and First Kid Barron Trump will live, pushing stories of President-elect Donald Trump's $25 million Trump University settlement and his controversial cabinet appointments further into the background.

This latest story started with a New York Postreport that Melania and Barron would continue to reside in Trump Tower in New York City with a source telling the Post, “Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign. The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.”

Jason Miller, communications director for Trump's transition team, told reporters during a call Sunday morning that the issue is still up in the air, according to the Daily Beast, but an NBC News correspondent reported a summer move was in the plans.

All of this resulted in a rare occurrence for American discourse: people arguing over the choice on Twitter.

Besides the strange optics of the First Family being split apart, some expressed concerns about the cost of extra Secret Service protection continuing at Trump Tower. Security operations there have already caused traffic nightmares.

In 2008, after Barack Obama won the presidency, there was similar talk of daughters Malia and Sasha remaining in Chicago but, ultimately, the girls moved to D.C. in January 2009, switching schools mid-year.
