Avocado roses are like a bouquet for your breakfast plate

Flower shopping for a loved one? Drop the bodega blooms and pick up an avocado. 

Avocado "roses" -- thinly sliced fruit coiled into a neat swirl -- are a common sight on Instagram, where aesthetic comes first. Food bloggers use them to top toast, grain bowls, salads, poached eggs and pretty much every other heavily 'grammed breakfast food.

Why is this necessary? It's not, but neither are the other trends that dominate the world of Instagram food styling. Still fun, though.

It's also slightly less complicated to pull off than the finished product might suggest, though practice ultimately makes perfect. 

You'll need a knife, a ripe avocado and enough patience to create something you'll eat almost immediately after you've posted a photo of it online.
